If you're reading this, you probably have forward neck posture..

"Nerd neck" makes you dumber, less attractive, and can even cause hair loss

Here's how to fix it.. 

First we need to understand why nerd neck is bad

Besides the functional importance of proper posture, nerd neck also causes the muscles in your neck to atrophy, which has a terrible aesthetic consequence 

A broad and straight neck is functionally significant.

It insulates the head from concussive blows and whiplash, while maintaining proper spinal alignment

Most people don't know this but for every inch of forward head posture, the force on the spine increases by an additional 10-12 pounds.

If you have nerd neck, you're asking for knee pain, immobility, and a lifetime of chiropractor visits

When the neck is habitually slumped forward, these muscles weaken as they are not used

This activates a vicious cycle as it becomes harder and harder to reclaim proper neck posture as your neck muscles just aren't strong enough 

To break or AVOID this cycle, you have to strengthen your neck

Do this with:
- Chin Tucks
- Neck Curls
- Wrestler bridges

The "DHT causes hair loss" hypothesis is flawed

It seems to be being forced by big science to peddle finasteride and minoxidil

If DHT is at an all time low, why is everyone going bald?

There's something else at play, and my research seems to point to circulation

If your body can't deliver blood flow to the hair follicle, it can't survive

Where does the blood come from? Well — your heart.

BUT, it has to first pass from heart to hair via the neck and superficial temporal artery 

Think of arteries like a hose

Water can flow through when the hose is straight, but when the hose is kinked, the flow is greatly reduced

Having forward neck posture is like introducing a massive kink right before the blood gets to your head

Not only is this terrible for your general cognition, it's a recipe for hair loss

Nerd neck doesn't just happen

It's built up over years of scrolling, sitting, and just generally looking downwards

Unless you want to get rid of your phone and computer forever,  you'll need to get creative to avoid auto-piloting into nerd neck.. 

Action I — Neck Tucks

I thought these sounded a bit silly but I started doing 100 a day and I can literally feel my rhomboids and lower traps getting stronger from it

It's like the new default setting of my neck is "straight and back" 

Action II - Wrestler bridges

IMO the best way to develop strength in your neck

Bonus: will also tune up and grow your mid-back

((You can start with forward neck bridges in a push up position until you get the hang of it)) 

Action III - Chew mastic gum

I've written at length about the benefits of mastic gum before

But as it relates to neck posture, chewing this hard resin will strengthen your masseters and adjacent neck muscles

Habit I - Standing desk / special rig

The special rig makes it impossible to have bad posture while working and as an added bonus also makes you look powerful and mysterious

Standing desk also absolutely necessary or you will turn into gigacorp turboshmuck 

Habit II - Sleep on back / side

If you are sleeping on your stomach, you need to stop ASAP

This will cause ATP (Anterior Pelvic Tilt) and kyphotic curvature as pressure pushes up on pelvis 

You can even take this a step further and sleep on the floor (or at least a much firmer mattress)

Sounds pretty insane but you'll wake up feeling like you slept 16 hours and got a full body massage

The reason this works is because most mattresses are too soft. You sink into them, causing your muscles to work throughout the night to support your body

You can't sink into the floor, which means you're resting on your bones (not muscles) and your body can get into deep sleep that much faster.

This is truly a hidden cheat-code for posture, energy levels, and deep sleep that most are unaware of

soft mattress = soft pudge body

Avoid

Habit III - The golden string

Imagine there is a string from the ceiling pulling you up and into perfect posture at all times

Try it right now

100% chance you notice the crown of your head come back and upwards

This might feel super weird and unnatural at first, but over time it will become second nature to you

Reversing nerd neck is a HUGE bang for your buck pursuit

- Massively improves aesthetics no matter your bodyweight

- Prevents shoulder injuries
- Aligns posture
- Makes you taller
- Conveys strength and confidence
- Promotes structural integrity of your body
- Prevents hip misalignment

- Prevents neck injuries
